
Why we put our bathroom heaters through a “humidity hell”
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. Between the steam from a hot shower, the random splashes of water, and the way the temperature swings from freezing to roasting in minutes, it’s a brutal place for a heating element. If a lamp isn’t built for this, the seals give way, the internals rust out, and the whole thing dies in a few weeks. That’s why we run damp-heat aging tests. We don’t just want to see if they work—we want to see exactly how they break.
The battle against moisture
Most of these heaters use shortwave infrared quartz lamps. Quartz is fantastic for heat, but the spots where the wires meet the glass? Those are the danger zones. Water is sneaky. It finds its way into those seals through capillary action—basically sucking itself in. Once moisture hits the live components, you get “arcing” or short circuits. Not exactly what you want in a room full of water. To stop this, we lock our lamps in high-humidity chambers at high heat for hundreds of hours. We aren’t looking for a “pass” grade. We’re hunting for the exact second the insulation fails so we can fix it before it ever reaches your house.
Dealing with the “shiver”
A mirror heater doesn’t just stay warm. It jumps from room temperature to several hundred degrees in a heartbeat. That constant expanding and contracting puts a massive amount of stress on the seals. If the sealant doesn’t move at the same rate as the quartz tube, it cracks. Then, the humidity seeps into those tiny micro-cracks and starts eating away at the insides. Our tests simulate these cycles over and over to make sure that vacuum seal stays tight.
The trade-off
Here is the thing: better sealing usually means using thicker, tougher resins. From a manufacturing standpoint, these resins are a pain. They’re harder to work with and they slow down our assembly line. But honestly? A slower production line is a price we’re happy to pay. It’s way better than having a product fail in your home. You just need a lamp that can take a beating from the steam and keep glowing without flickering or popping. Simple as that.
